  • Brent Penot Celbrates 21st company anniversary and still going  :  9/1/2011


    Engel & Gray, Inc. is proud to recognize Brent Penot for his 21 years of professional Truck Driving for the local family owned company. Carl & Bob Engel have relied on Brent as one of the skilled drivers of the company family. Brent has been and continues to be a skilled driver and licensed operator of the company’s truck mounted hydraulic cranes. . Brent started with the company as a semi truck driver, quickly mastering semi flat bed, semi end dump and low bed operations. He then became a stinger crane operator, loading and hauling tubular goods and equipment and running all of the company’s heavy equipment. Brent is a certified crane operator with endorsements for Engel & Gray, Inc.’s hydraulic truck cranes. As an accomplished BBQ chef Brent has traveled far and wide serving up some of the best steaks the Central Coast produces. Bob & Carl are looking forward to Brent’s next 21 years!



  • Engel & Gray, Inc begins Celebration of 65th year  :  5/1/2011


    Engel & Gray, Inc. begins a year of celebration in recognition of their 65th anniversary. Located in the same building Carl Engel and Joe Gray started their partnership back in May of 1946. Both worked for Union Oil Company Carl running the local transportation division and Joe running the gasoline station at the corner of Broadway and Stowell Roads. The story goes that Carl drove into the station and asked Joe if he wanted to go into the trucking business, and Joe just pulled the doors closed and jumped in the truck. That partnership lasted for over 50 years. 65 years has seen a lot of changes to the trucking business and evolved into a small diversified business that works to compliment each segment of the operation. Today owned by the Engel family and run by Carl Engel Jr. and Bob Engel the company consist of a trucking, construction service and regional composting facility serving the Central Coast.



  • Bob Engel appointed Chair of United States Composting Council Market Development Committee  :  1/15/2011


    Frank Franciosi, president of the United States Composting Council (USCC)announced recently that Bob Engel had been appointed chair of Market Development Committee. This committee oversees the operation of the USCC Seal of Testing Assurance Program or STA for short. This program is the only national testing program and lab certification program in the US.   • Engel & Gray Inc Passes CHP Safety Bit Inspection  :  11/14/2010


    Engel & Gray Inc. continues its commitment to Safety with the completion of their Biannual Inspection of Terminal (BIT) by the California Highway Patrol. A day long inspection of trucks and records earned the Engel and Gray team the best rating available. This program requires all motor carriers operating trucks and terminals to undergo an inspection to rate their compliance with laws and regulations relating to motor carrier safety. This marks the fifth consecutive time Engel & Gray, Inc. has achieved this meritorious acheivement. Congratulations to the E&G team and keep up the commitment to SAFETY.



  • Bobby Randolph Celebrates 36 Years with Engel & Gray, Inc.  :  5/19/2010


    Engel & Gray, Inc. is proud to recognize Bobby Randolph for his 36 years of professional Truck Driving for the local family owned company. Carl & Bob Engel, consider Bobby one of the most important members of the company family. Randolph has played an integral part in the success of the company, which happens to be celebrating its 64th anniversary this year. After a 10 year stint at Speeds Oil Tool Service, Bobby decided to enhance his professional driving career with Engel & Gray, Inc.. He started with the company as a semi truck driver, quickly mastering semi flat bed, semi end dump and low bed operations. He then became a stinger crane operator, loading and hauling tubular goods and equipment and running all of the company’s heavy equipment. Bobby is a certified crane operator with endorsements to 250 ton machines. With a fantastic safety record, Bobby’s work ethics have been exemplary. It is estimated he has over 1.5 million miles, and growing! Bobby’s willingness to share his knowledge and skills with new employees makes him invaluable to Engel & Gray. Bob & Carl are looking forward to Bobby’s next 36 years!



  • Regional Composting Facility Breaks Production Rec  :  2/25/2010


    Engel & Gray Inc since 1946 has provided quality service to the Central Coast. Engel & Gray Inc. added new contracts to compost biosolids in additon to existing contracts with The Montecito Sanitary District, City of Buellton and City of Santa Barbara. This material combined with agricultural by-products has created a quality compost utilized by the landscape industry in the region.   • Janice Shoun Retires   :  4/1/2008


    Janice Shoun retired after 48 years of working in the Santa Maria Valley. Janice completed 16 and one half years with Engel & Gray, Inc.. Bob Engel Vice president remarked "you would be hard pressed to find a more loyal and dedicated employee than Janice. We are sorry to see her leave but excited for her future travels." Engel & Gray held a retirement dinner for Janice at Testas Bistro for company employees and relatives of Janice. Special guest was Mr. Louie Lucas who employed Janice for 17 years prior to her joining E&G. Good Luck Janice!

    Since 1946 Engel & Gray Inc. has been providing quality services to the Central Coast. Carl Engel, President of Engel & Gray Inc. pointed to the 62 years of continuous service the company has provided to industry of California. As a second generation owner and empolyee of the company since 1968 Mr. Engel has seen many changes and growth. Originating as a trucking and construction company serving the energy industry in the 1960s to an integrated construction and transportation company providing demolition, environmental, waste removal, material transportation and a regional compost facility.
